Rainy Day Activities for Young Children
Here in Florida, it rains almost every day during the summer, so having an arsenal of entertaining indoor activities is a must! Here are a few of our favorites!
1. Arts & Crafts
We love all anything creative! Below we recycled old crayons to make fun shaped rainbow crayons. They make coloring even more exciting.
Preheat oven to 230 degrees and bake for approximately 15 minutes. Let them cool until they become hard again. These make great party favors as well!
2. Indoor Obstacle Course
All you need are a few roles of streamers and tape, and you can have an indoor obstacle course set up in a few minutes. You can make it as hard or easy to complete as you would like.
3. Scavenger Hunts
We love scavenger hunts! From color scavenger hunts indoors (pictured below), to sight word scavenger hunts (also pictured below) to nature scavenger hunts outdoors, they are always a lot of fun.
4. Bake
Baking and trying new recipes never gets old. Banana pudding is one our favorites, and is easy enough for my 4 year old to make with very little help from me.
5. Build a Fort
Who doesn't love to build forts inside?! We like to use fitted bed sheets to hook on the backs of our high top chairs. It seems to stay in place better than other things we have tried. Forts are great for reading on a rainy day, playing games, letting your imagination run wild and just enjoying spending time together.
